Successful Winganna Baby Fleece Review
Awake or Asleep
Babies readily snuggle down to sleep, recognizing by touch the texture of the fleece, feeling comfortable and more secure than on an unyielding mattress covered with cotton or plastic. They sleep longer, and continue to enjoy sleeping on the fleeces up to age three or four. The lambskin is associated with sleep by the baby, but it is not only for sleeping. A Winganna Lambskin provides comfort in a car seat, playpen, stroller, crib and in any different environment where your baby is.

Winganna Lambskin fleeces are so soothing that babies enjoy longer intervals of quiet play, especially in the early morning hours. The baby wakes up happy and lies there quietly cooing. Many parents have reported that this gives them an opportunity to catch up on needed sleep!

Gentle Touch
Touch is the earliest of the senses to develop, according to Dr. Ashley Montagu, author of the book, “Touching.”

A fetus enjoys a constant stimulation of its skin from the amniotic fluid in the mother’s womb. Birth can be a turbulent experience for the baby, and it needs the reinforcement of touch to begin communication with its mother.

During the baby’s sleep, it is constantly receiving “touch” messages from the surface of the crib, and these substantially contribute to its sleep. Therefore, the surfaces it comes in contact with are very important for healthy physical, functional and behavioral development, according to Dr. Montagu.

Test results have shown clearly that “both infants and mothers derive substantial benefit from the use of lambskins,” he writes, and “the use of lambskins should become a routine practice in the home."

Ashley Montagu, Ph.D. Princeton, NJ, is a noted anthropologist and social biologist and author of several books.

Medical Benefits
Weight Gain. Medical research in a special care baby unit in the Cambridge Maternity Hospital in England has demonstrated that high-risk and premature babies gain weight faster when sleeping on lambswool rather than on conventional bedding. Babies with lambswool in their incubators gained 1.1 ounces a day, compared to .7 ounces gained by babies on regular bedding, according to the 1979 study published in The Lancet Medical Journal. Further studies and thousands of families attest to the fact that the baby you love will sleep longer and better on a lambskin.

Texture. The lambswool stimulates and caresses the skin of a newborn infant, comforting it and promoting longer sleep. Studies indicate that texture alone can play an important role in placing stress on the newborn. Babies like to snuggle into and clutch at the soft, yielding surface. Lambskins greatly reduce stress on the newborn and provide valuable tactile stimulation, so necessary for baby’s development during the early years. Premature babies and babies with special feeding problems, or colic, especially benefit from the soothing effects of the lambskins.

Natural and Secure
A new baby can mean getting up at all hours of the night with wet diapers, colic and other related complaints, right? Not necessarily. Parents and hospitals in New Zealand, Australia and Great Britain have been rediscovering a small miracle during the past twenty to thirty years using the natural lambswool fleece in comforting and soothing babies. Lambskin has been used for centuries throughout the world to provide a safe, comforting and secure surface for babies to sleep and play on. Now, the fleeces, which serve as mattress and underblanket, are available in the United States through Winganna Lambskins in Corvallis, Montana.

Safe and Clean
Winganna Natural Lambskins are imported from England, where the mild, wet climate produces a uniquely soft, dense and resilient fleece. They are carefully selected and specially processed for safe use with babies. The wool has been sheared to give firm mattress support and then carefully combed to remove any loose fibers so there is no danger of babies picking up bits of fluff or breathing in long fibers. Each lambskin is subject to stringent quality control.

There is no danger of suffocation if the baby turns its head in the wool, because air easily circulates through the fibers. For the same reason, water vapor from damp diapers or sweat circulates away from the baby, reducing the possibility of diaper or prickly heat rash.

The lambswool fleece also reduces the danger of hypothermia, since it covers more skin areas than conventional bedding.

Winganna Lambskins are processed so they can be machine-washed and tumble dried. Care instructions are provided with each fleece. The lambskins do not soil easily and can be aired and brushed regularly to keep fresh. Between washings a light sponging will clean away any accidents. Winganna Lambskins are guaranteed against defect for three months.
